I Can't Believe i'm ShoPPinG

This is one of the rare days that i'm actually SHOPPING! haha.... those who know me well will know that i'm not those who will go on a shopping spree. :)

After a period of low morale, i'm finally back and alive, ready to strive for my best in my studies. (even though i din study for the whole of the sem-break. haha) Well rested at home, i think i've grew horizontally. Argh!!!! Damned.

Anyway, back to the main point for this blog. I've gone Bugis with my Mummy today to accompany her to the temple. At first, we wanted to catch the movie "Legendary Courtesan: Hwang Jin Yi". However, mum said that she read the reviews and the show wasn't as great and not worth watching. Thus, we decided to walk walk in Bugis Street. :)

I haven been to Bugis Street for quite some time. And i nv did buy anything from there before, except a pair of jeans (erm... in July i think). But miracles do happen. i bought a top in the first shop i went into. haha.... $15... not too ex i think. Mummy paid. heehee. That's when my spree began. i bought a belt ($10) and a bag ($33 - paid myself) subsequently.

Then, we went to Bras Basar to look for Chinese books. My mum likes the novels written by this local author - Ying Pei An. We went looking for his book store and eventually bought 2 of his novels with his signature on them. (i asked for it... hha) Besides that, mum bought another 2 books, one on the Emperors of Qing Dynasty, the other on the novel - Se Jie (the movie showing soon on 4th Oct). Spent a total of about $70 on 4 books.

Though didn't sound like i bought a lot of stuff. But at least it's more than usual for me. :) So my next aim: Travel. I really hope i can travel this coming Dec. Been rather down due to many hipups while planning my trip. Haiz... Shall not mention here. Alright, that's all for today. A boring entry? i hope not. haha.

[Am i fated to travel? Someone pls enlighten me...]

HAS - Hall Admission Scheme

Juz 10 min ago, my hall room was officially under my name. I've been staying in my current room since last year and was forced to switch room to another block (luckily not another hall) due to the inefficient HAS (Hall Admission Scheme).
Fortunately, the one who was allocated my room was my fren and she wanted the room i was allocated to. Thus, we did an internal swap (illegally) and stayed in our desired room under each other's name.
Finally, the procedure for mutual exchanging of our rooms is over! Hooray!! My room under my name... Sounds pretty good. :)

HAS - Hall Admission Scheme
A lot of the NTU undergrads are still not familiar with the system.

It is basically formed by 2 factors:

  • Travelling Time
  • Campus Life Involvement

Here is a simplified model of the scheme.

Stage 1

Category A:
Guaranteed
New students, international exchange students, students with special needs, mgmt com members in student organisations, Special University Programmes (CN Yang Programme)

1. Management committee members in student organisations are entitled to only double rooms but not a specific room.

2. A management committee member is eligible under Category A by virtue of his or her incumbency. If he / she is removed from office by a constitutional motion or by a statutory process, he / she shall correspondingly forfeit his / her tenancy in the hall.

Category B:
(Double Rooms)
1. Discretionary (capped at 40 places per hall [double rooms])
The Senior Hall Fellow, in consultation with his or her HFs, may use his / her discretion to admit up to 40 students who, he / she feels, can contribute to hall activities.

2. University Sports Scheme (capped at 450 places [double rooms] and any unused places will be released to Cat C)
Student Athletes whose representations are listed on the sports scheme (Group A) may opt to be placed under HAS Category B or Category C.

Category C:
(remaining places after Category A and Category B)
Weighting:
(a) Travelling Time <35mins:> 3
(a) Travelling Time <50mins:> 4
(a) Travelling Time <65mins:> 5
(a) Travelling Time <80mins:> 6
(a) Travelling Time <95mins:> 7
(a) Travelling Time <110mins:> 8
(a) Travelling Time ≥110mins: *9
(b) Campus Life-Level 1: 9
(b) Campus Life-Level 2: 7
(b) Campus Life-Level 3: 5
(b) Campus Life-Level 4: 3
(c)**Academic Probation: 3
(d)Final-year student--has never stayed in a hall: 2
(e)Non-final-year student--has never stayed in a hall: 1
(f)Local student willing to share a room with an international student and vice versa: 3
(g)***Students on Overseas Exchange and Overseas IA: 3

* international students: weighting is 9 by default
**The weighting for Academic Probation is awarded only if the applicant is placed under such probation at the point of application for hall accommodation.
***The weighting for Campus Life and that for Overseas Exchange / Overseas IA are mutually exclusive. In other words, there is only one weighting awarded between Campus Life and Overseas Exchange / Overseas IA, whichever is the higher one.

Successful:
Automatically allocated rooms by computer system: may indicate choice of roommate (who must also be successful), priority given to returning residents.

Stage 2

Balloting:
Applicants who are unsuccessful after Stage 1 will be placed on the waiting list for the next round of balloting when vacancies arise (until the last person on the list is offered accommodation).
If there are still any vacancies after the last person on the above-mentioned waiting list has been offered, the vacancies will then be offered to those who do not meet the minimum requirements.

Hopefully, this will help a little in the understanding of this shitty HAS, which caused big commotions and caused great inconvenience to the Hall residents. Even some of the Hall Presidents of JCRC did not get their rooms despite their very much contribution to Halls due to their travelling time weighting.

e.g. 1

Paul lives in Tampines and he's an active resident in hall, participating in the sub-committee of JCRC. He needs at least 1 hour 30 min to travel from his house to NTU, excluding waiting time, which may be up to 15 min.

Travelling Time: 7
Campus Life-Level 3: 5

Total points: 12

General Hall Cut-off point:
Male - 14
Female - 13

Result: Stage 1 Unsuccessful

e.g. 2

Jane lives in Jurong East and she's an active hall resident in the Main committee of JCRC. She needs about 30 mins to travel from her house to school, excluding waiting time, which may be up to 15 min.

Travelling Time: 3
Campus Life-Level 1: 9

Total points: 12

General Hall Cut-off point:
Male - 14
Female - 13

Result: Stage 1 Category A - Risk of not getting back her old room or even her current hall.

What the hell... Even an active hall resident in the management committee can't be guaranteed the same room. What's more for a normal hall resident?

Random Thoughts

I'm slacking at home for the past few days since Friday. It's Sem-Break! and i did NOTHING.. practically nothing at home... Besides going out with my LaoPo on Saturday, i've been watching tv, eat & sleep for the past few days.
Maybe i'm running away from reality... maybe i'm too afraid. I know i need to decide.... but who can tell me wat is the best? i need to walk out from my past to be able to think.. i cant trust (thanx to you)... i cant commit... there's a knot i need to untie or i cant take the risk...
Alright now, i guess, cos everyone's exhausted. i need a break too if u didnt realise. i'm stressed cos i cant perform well in my studies. i need to concentrate.. i know....

Going back hall to study tml... Good Luck to me...

Lonely

Juz had my Heat transfer quiz today. Total disaster. Haiz... feeling very moody now....
As i look back, i realised i'm juz all alone after all... one lonely gal in a lonely room.

A sign of depression i guess.... maybe i'm too stressed up.
Suddenly, i feel like going home... i miss my mum, miss my dad, miss my bro and miss my bedroom....
i might seem strong outside but i'm rather weak inside. i need someone to be there for me... i need company.... i need my loved ones, i need my friends.....

"Lonely, i'm so lonely.... I've nobody, all on my own~~~"

Truly reflects my emotions....

Found this MTV by Akon - Mr Lonely (though i'm Miss Lonely...)
